IT IS THE AIM OF THE ACADEMY TO GRADUATE THERAPISTS WHO EXCEL NOT ONLY IN THE THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF OUR INDUSTRY, BUT ALSO IN ALL PRACTICAL ASPECTS. THE ACADEMY WILL MAINTAIN A HIGH STANDARD OF TRAINING, USING QUALIFIED, EXPERIENCED TRAINERS TO ENSURE THE STUDENT COMPREHENDS AND BENFITS FROM EACH TRAINING SESSION. THE ACADEMY AIMS TO PROVIDE AN EDUCATION IN THE HEALTH AND BEAUTY THERAPY INDUSTRY WHICH WILL ENSURE EACH GRADAUTE IS HIGLY EMPLOYABLE WITHIN OUR FIELD. THE ACADEMY HAS SET ITSELF THE GOAL OF PROVIDING EDUCATION WITH A HIGH TRAINER TO LEANER RATIO TO FACILITATE LEARNING IN THE PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF THE FIELD. THE ACADEMY IS COMMITTED TO PROMOTING THE CONCEPTS OF SMALL BUSINESS AND SELF EMPLOYMENT, WHICH IN TURN LEADS TO MORE WORK OPPOTUNITIES.
ASSESSMENT POLICY It is the organizations policy that we ensure fairness, validity and credibility with all our activities. It is therefore part of our quality management that a learner may appeal against a decision made by one of our assessors assessing a candidate towards competency of a unit standard. This appeal procedure is captured in our appeal policy and can be obtained from the Academy offices. All assessors are to be make aware of this assessment policy and must sign the control sheet for comprehension and acceptance. All assessors shall approach the assessment of a learner activity with the following attitude: The concept of positive reinforcement will be applied No negative reinforcement will be allowed by the assessor The assessor will act as a coach and mentor for the learner The leaner will evaluate against the skills highlighted in the assessment guide and none other. Assessment guides will be developed and available for all assessments of courses delivered by the Academy. All three competencies identified as part of an applied competency are to be assessed. These are the Practical, foundational and reflexive competencies. All assessments for our generic courses are to be contextual zed. The above policy and assessment criteria is to be seen as non negotiable for the assessors for the academy and shall at all times be adhered to. APPEAL POLICY It is the organizations policy that we ensure validity and credibility of all our activities. It is therefore part of our Quality Management that a learner may lodge appeal against a decision made by the Assessor of a course on assessment against unit standards. The Learner would therefore be within her rights to lodge an appeal to the Internal moderator or to PAB { the ETQA manager for education health and Skin Care Specialists} For either of the scenarios the problem will be resolved at The Academy of Beauty therapy level first. Should the learner's problem not be resolved according to her satisfaction then they she has the option of lodging an appeal to the ETQA of the Education sector {PAB} Should the learner still not be adequate satisfied they may submit an appeal to SAQA. PROCEDURE. Learner to submit a typed copy of her appeal to The Academy of Beauty Therapy cc within 21 days of the assessment. Address: P. O. Box 1076 - Kloof - 3640 The appeal must be addressed to the internal moderator. The Academy of Beauty Therapy cc shall acknowledge receipt of the appeal within 5 working days. The Internal moderator will investigate the appeal and inform the learner of the decision within 21 days. Should the Internal moderator uphold the appeal then she will: Amend the decision accordingly Record the amendment on all relevant documentation and data capturing processes A learner may appeal the decision of the Internal moderator to the ETQA who is PAB – The Professional Accreditation Board of health and skin care therapists. TEACHING AND LEARNING SERVICES & RESPONSIBILITIES POLICY THE ACADEMY OF BEAUTY THERAPY IS COMMITTED TO TRAINING PROSPECTIVE THERAPISTS IN ALL ASPECTS OF BEAUTY THERAPY. WE AIM TO COVER THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THIS CHALLENGING FIELD. WE AIM TO IMPART THE PRACTICAL SKILLS REQUIRED TO BE A SAFE AND EFFECTIVE THERAPIST. WE AIM TO INSTILL A STRONG WORK ETHIC INTO OUR GRADUATES AND MAKE THEM HIGHLY EMPLOYABLE IN THE CURRENT JOB MARKET. WE ARE COMMITTED TO WORKING WITH EACH STUDENT TOWARDS HER QUALIFICATION AND WILL ENDEVOUR TO SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE TOWARDS HER GOAL. WE RECOGNISE THAT WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR: • PROVIDING CLEAR AND CONCISE GUILDINES FOR BOTH THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED • MONITORING THE STUDENTS PROGRESS, IDENTIOFYING ANY AREAS OF WEAKNESS AND RECTIFYING THEM DURING THE COURSE OF THE TRAINING. • PROVIDING A SAFE AND WELL EQUIPPED TRAINING FACILITY. ENSURING THAT THE STUDENT HAS SUFFICIENT EQUIPMENT, GUIDENCE AND TIME TO MASTER THE NECESSARY SKILLS. • GIVING REGULAR, FAIR AND HONEST FEEDBACK TO HELP THE STUDENT TO WORK TOWARDS THEIR QUALIFICATION. ASSESSMENT OF THE LEARNER POLICY WE ARE COMMITTED TO REGULAR AND CONTINOUS ASSESSMENT OF BOTH THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE. OUR ASSESSMENTS ARE RUN AT THE END OF EACH SECTION, ENABLING THE TRAINER TO NOTE ANY AREAS WHICH REQUIRE ADDITIONAL WORK. . ASSESSMENTS ARE COMPLETED DURING TRAINING HOURS BY THE TRAINERS TO ENSURE STUDENTS COMPETENCY IN EACH AREA. THE ACADEMY WORKS ON VARIOUS FORMATS FOR ASSESSMENT. 1.WRITTEN TESTS ARE SET USING MCQ, SHORT QUESTIONS, ESSAY FORMAT AND DIAGRAMTIC FORM, AIMING TO ALLOW ALL TYPES OF LEARNERS TO SHOW KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. 2. OPEN BOOK WORKSHEETS ARE COMPLETED BY THE LEANER DURING TRAINING TIME TO ENSURE UNDERSTANDING OF SUBJECT CONTENT AND ENCOURAGE APPLICATION OF THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE FOR PROBLEM SOLVING. 3. SIMULATION ASSESMENTS OF PARACTICAL SKILLS ARE COMPLETED WITH VERBAL AND WRITTEN FEEDBACK TO THE STUDENTS TO ENSURE FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE SKILL AND ENABLE THE STUDENTS TO BRING TOGETHER BOTH THEORETICAL FACTS AND APPLICATION OF SKILLS. 4. RESEARCH WORK IS ASSESSED IN THE FORM OF DISSERTATIONS ON WORK RELATING TO OUR INDUSTRY. ALL ASSESSMENTS ARE CARRIED OUR BY ASSESSORS, MODERATORS ARE USED TO ENSURE FAIR AND COMPREHENSIVE ASESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ATTAINED. MANAGEMENT OF THE ORGANISATION POLICY FINANCIAL POLICY PHYSICAL POLICY ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY ALL ADMINISTRATION WILL BE OPEN AND ALL DOCUMENTATION REGARDING THE RUNNING OF THE ACADEMY AVALIABLE TO INVOLVED PARTIES. FILES WILL BE KEPT ON EACH STUDENT IN TERMS OF PROGRESS REPORTS AND SO FORTH. THESE FILES ARE TO BE CONFIDENTIAL AND THE CON TENT S ONLY DISCLOSED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE STUDENT OR HER GUARDIAN. THE ACADEMY WILL KEEP ALL FINAL RESULT RECORDS FOR A MINIMUM OF FIVE YEARS AFTER THE STUDENT HAS EXITED FORM THE ACADMEY TRAINING PROGRAMME. ALL DISPUTES BETWEEN STAFF AND STAFF OR STAFF AND STUDENTS OR ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF OR ADMINISTRATION AND STUDENTS WILL BE RECORDED AND THE OUTCOME AND PROCEDURES FOLLOWED KEPT ON RECORD. LEARNER SUPPORT, ACCESS, EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES POLICY THE ACADEMY COMMITS TO SUPPORT OF THE LEARNER . ALL CONTACT HOURS ARE RECORDED BETWEEN THE LEARNER AND TUTOR. THE ACADEMY IS COMMITTED TO SMALL TRAINING GROUPS TO MAINTAIN A HIGH TRAINER : STUDENT RATIO. WE BELIEVE IN REGULAR, HONEST AND FAIR FEEDBACK TO THE LEANER ON ALL WRITTEN, ORAL AND PRACTICAL WORK COMPLETED, ENABLING THE LEARNER TO BENEFT FROM POSTIVE, CORRECTIVE INSTRUCTION. ALL TRAINERS ARE FULL TIME AND THUS READILY AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT AND ASSIST THE LEARNER. REGULAR ASSEMBLIES WILL BE HELD WITH STAFF AND STUDENTS. THIS AIMS TO PROVIDE A FORUM FOR DISCUSSION AND AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDETNS TO GIVE FEEDBACK TO STAFF REGARDING TRAINING METHODS, AREAS OF CONCERN AND SO FORTH. THE ACADEMY BELIEVES IN AND IS COMMITTED TO THE STUDENTS ULTIMATE GOAL OF QUALIFICATION WITHIN OUR FIELD. IN THIS REGARD EACH TRAINER UNDERTAKES TO SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE ALL STUDENTS IN HER AREA OF EXPERTISE TO ENALBE THE ACHIEVMENT OF THIS TASK. THE ACADEMY CONFIRMS THAT THIS INSTITUTION DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE ON THE BASIS OF RACE, RELIGION OR CREED. THE ACADEMY HOLD DEAR THE PRICIPLA THAT ALL ARE CREATED EQUAL AND THIS POLICY EXTENDS TO BOTH STAFF AND LEANER INTAKE AT THE ACADEMY AIDS AND EQUIPMENT POLICY THE ACADEMY WILL KEEP AND MAINTAIN AMPLE EQUIPMENT FOR THE LEANER TO BECOME PROFICIENT BY PRACTICE. THE TRAINER WILL ENSURE THAT THE LEANER HAS ADEQUATE TIME AND EXPOSURE TO THE EQUIPMENT AND PRACTICES REQUIRED BY A BEAUTY THERAPIST.THE EQUIPMENT IS TO INCLUDE:ALL BASIC FURNISHINGS WITH TWO LEARNERS TO A WORK STATION COMPRISED OF : A PLINTH, A THERAPIST CHAIR, A TROLLEY, A PUG POINT, THE FOLLOWING WILL BE PROVIDED BETWEEN TWO WORK STATIONS: A VAPOURZONE, A MAGNIFYING LAMP OF 10 TIMES MAGNIFICATION, THE FOLLOWING MACHINES WILL BE MAINTAINED FOR THE USE OF TRAINING : 12 MULTIFUNCTION FACIALS MACHINES COMPRISED OF THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM:, GALVANIC FOR IONTOPHORESIS AND DESINCRUSTATION HIGH FREQUENCY FOR BOTH DIRECT AND INDIRECT APPLICATION VACUUM SUCTION, BODY MACHINES ENABLING A FULL PRACTICAL GROUP OF TWELVE THERAPIST/LEARNERS TO WORK WITH THE FOLLOWING: BODY GALVANIC MACHINES BODY NMES MACHINES, G5'S BOTH FREE STANDING AND HAND HELD, INFRA RED LAMPS, VACUUM SUCTION UNITS FOR BODY APPLICATION, SPECIALISED MACHINES IN THE FORM OF: NON SURGICAL FACE LIFT – INTERFERENTIAL UNIT, MICRODERMABARAION UNIT, PERMANENANT MAKE UP UNITSSTERILIZATION EQUIPMENT. ALL EQUIPMENT WILL BE SERVICED REGULARLY BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN IN THE INTREST OF THE SAFETY OF THE OPERATOR. THE PRACTICAL ROOMS WILL ALSO ALWAYS BE SUPPLIED WITH RUNNING HOT AND COLD WATER. QUALITY ASSURANCE POLICY THE ACADEMY WILL APPOINT A MEMBER OF STAFF TO ACT AS THE QUALITY ASSURER IN ALL ASPECTS OF THE TRAINING. THE PERSON APPOINTED WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO OUR ETQA TO ENSURE THAT ALL STANDARDS AND CRITEREA ARE MET. THE QA WILL ANSWER TO PAB AND CORRESPOND WITH THEM TO WORK TOWARDS THE HIGHEST STANDARD OF EDUAITON WITHIN OUR FIELD. LANGUAGE POLICY THE ACADEMY OF BEAUTY THERAPY WILL ALWAYS BE OPEN TO STUDENTS OF ALL RACES, CREEDS RELIGIONS AND LANGUAGES. BECAUSE OF THE EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS BEING CONDUCTED IN ENGLISH THE ACADEMY INSTRUCTION IS OFFERED IN ENGLISH FOR BOTH THEORY AND PRACTICAL SECTIONS OF THE TRAINING. INTERPERTERS MAY BE USED DURING TRAINING AND EXAMINAITON IF REQURIED. INTERPERTER MAY BE USED IN INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS. FOR EXTERNAL EXAMINATION THE EXAMINING BOARD MUST BE MADE AWARE IN WRITING FOR THE NEED OF AN INTERPRETER. THE INTERPRETER MAY NOT BE A FRIEND, RELATION OR A TUTOR OF THE STUDENT. AN INTERPERETER REQURIED DURING TRAINING TIME WILL BE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE STUDENT CONCERNED. LEARNING PROGRAMME EVALUATION POLICY AT THE END OF EACH YEAR THE STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO COMPLETE A CONFIDENTIAL QUESTIONARRE WHICH IS USED TO EVALAUTE THE COURSE, THE STAFF AND THE QUALIFICATION AS A WHOLE. THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME DURING THE YEAR. EACH SALON OWNER OR MANAGER COMPLETES A FORM ON THE LEARNERS SKILLS AS WELL AS THE COURSE CONTENT THAT HAS BEEN COVERED AT THE ACADEMY. THE INFORAMTION GAINED FORM THIS HELSP THE STAFF ENSURE THAT THE LEARNER IS BEING TRAINED NOT JUST TOWARDS A “PIECE OF PAPER”. BUT TO A MARKET RELATED STANDARD. THE SECOND YAER STUDENTS RUN A SALON FROM THE SCHOOL, CLIENTS ARE ASKED TO FILL IN COMMENT SHEETS ON THE STUDENTS SKILL, PROFFESSONALISM AND THIS IS USED TO EVALUATE THE STANDARD OF THE ACAEMY AND THAT CLIENTS NEEDS ARE BEING MET. ASSOCIATION WITH THE EXTERNAL EXAMINATION BODIES HAS ALWAYS ACTED NOT ONLY AS A QUALIFICATION FOR OUR STUDENTS, BUT ALSO AS AN EVALUATION FOR THE ACADEMY ITSELF. THE EXAMINERS COMPLETE SHEETS ON THE ACADEMY FACILITES AND THE LEARNERS PERFORMANCE. PAPERWORK MUST BE SUMBITTED TO THE EXAMINING BODY ON THE COURSE STRUCTURE, TIMETABLES AND CONTENT. THIS ENSURES THAT OUR COURSE IS VALID TO BOTH NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MARKETS. STAFF SELECTION POLICY STAFF ARE SELECTED ACCORDING TO THEIR QUALIFICATION FOR THE WORK THEY WILL BE REQUIRED TO DO. NO STAFF APPLICANT WILL BE PLACED OR BIASED BASED ON RACE, RELIGION OR CREED. ALL PLACEMENTS WILL BE OPEN TO GENERAL RECRUITMENT AND THE BEST QUALIFIED PERSON WILL BE OFFERD THE PLACEMENT. ALL STAFF WILL BE TREATED WITH RESPECT AS IS DUE TO THEM THROUGH THEIR QUALIFICATION AND HUMANITY. ALL VACANIES WILL BE ADVERTISED THROUGH THE INDUSTRY VIA PLACEMENT AGENCIES, THE NEWSPAPER AND ORGANISATIONS SUCH AS SAAPS. STAFF APPLICANTS WILL BE ASKED TO SUBMIT A CV AND THEN AN INTERVIEW WILL BE ARRANGED WITH ALL SUITABLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES. ALL STAFF WILL BE REGISTERED WITH THE RECEIVER OF REVENUES OFFICE FOR PAYE AND REGSITERED FOR UIF. ALL STAFF WILL RECEIVE A WRITTEN CONTRACT GIVING ALL INFORMATION REGARDING EMPLOYMENT, BENEFITS AND ALL CONCERNS OF THE EMPLOYEE. NO STAFF WILL BE FIRED WITHOUT FOLLOWING THE SET PROCEDURES AS LAYED DOWN BY DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR. REMEDIAL SUPPORT POLICY SHOULD A STUDENT BE UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE WORK REQURIED TO BE DECLARED COMPETENT SHE WOULD BE OFFERED VARIOUS OPTIONS TO ASSIST HER IN ACHIEVING OF HER GOALS. THE LEARNER IS OFFERED EXTRA TUTION ON A ONE ON ONE BASIS WITH THE TRIANER CONCERNED. THE LEARNER IS OFFERED EXTRA WORKSHEETS TO COMPLETE AT HOME, THESE WILL BE MARKED AS IF A CLOSED BOOK TEST AND THE ASSESSMENT RESULTS WILL COUNT. SHOULD A LEARNER FIND DIFFICULTY WITH THE TIME OF TESTS AND ASSESSMENTS, PARTICULARLY WHEN PERFORMING IN HER SECOND OR THIRD LANGUAGE EXTRA TIME WILL BE GIVEN, THIS EXTENDS TO BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS. SHOULD A LEARNER FAIL TO ACHIEVE COMPETENCY AT THE END OF THE SECOND YAER SHE MAY CONSOLIDATE FOR A YEAR BY RE DOING THE SECTIONS OF FIRST YEAR WHERE SHE HAD A PROBLEM. THE FEES WILL BE ADJUSTED ACCORDIGLY AND THE LEARNER'S PREVIOUS LEARNING AND COMPETENCY WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING POLICY ALL STUDENTS MUST IN THEIR SECOND YEAR TAKE PART IN A WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME. THIS PROGRAM IS FOUR HOURS A WEEK IN A SALON. TH STUDENT MUST WORK AS A THERAPIST UNDER THE GUIDENCE OF THE OWNER/ MANAGER OR QUALIFIED THERAPIST. THE LEARNER MAY RECEIVE REMUNERATION FOR HER WORK AT THE DISCRETION OF THE SALON/ SPA. SHOULD A STUDENT BE OFFERED FURTHER WORK AT THE SALON OR SPA, THIS MAY BE ACCEPTED OR REJECTED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE STUDETN AND ANY REMUNERATIONS WILL BE SOLEY THE STUDENT USE. EACH SECOND YEAR MUST PRESENT A FORM FROM THE SALON SHOWING FEEDBACK. EACH STUDENT MUST COMPLETE A FORM FOR HERSELF GIVING HER FEEDBACK ON THE WORK EXPERIENCE. THE STUDENTS WILL ALSO PARTICIPATE IN A STUDENT SALON UNDER THE TUTORLAGE OF A TRAINER AT THE ACADEMY. THIS WILL BE CONDUCTED ON SET DAYS AND OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. EACH CLIENT FOR THE STUDENT SALON WILL COMPLETE A FEEDBACK SHEET. THESE WILL BE GIVEN TO THE STUDENT CONCERNED AND USED FOR DEVELOPMENT OF HER AS A THERAPIST. CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY THE ACADEMY WILL ENDEVOUR TO KEEP ALL STUDENT RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE AT THE ACADEMY CONFIDENTIAL. THIS DOES NOT EXTEND TO CASES WHERE THE LEARNER IS BEING FUNDED BY OTHERS. IN THIS SITUATION THE PERSO RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACCOUNT WILL HAVE ACCESS TO FINAL RESULTS AND ASSESSMENTS. THE LEARNER WILL BE MADE AWARE OF THIS AND HER WRITTEN CONSENT WILL BE GIVEN PRIOR TO THE RELAESE OF ANY RESULTS. STUDENTS MAY NOT REQUEST THE MARKS OF OTHER STUDENTS BE MADE KNOWN TO THEM WITHOUT THE WRITTEN CONSENT OF THAT STUDENT. STUDENT HEALTH ISSUES AND MEDICAL STATUS WILL BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL AT ALL TIMES. MEDICAL REPORTS AND INFORMATION SUMBITTED TO THE ACADEMY WILL BE USED ONLY TO PROTECT THE STUDENT FROM ANY THERAPIES TO WHICH THEY MAY BE CONTRA INDICATED BY THEIR CONDITION. ANY CONFIDENTIAL PERSONAL ISSUES AND DETAISL GIVEN TO THE ACADEMY WHETHER IN STRICT CONFIDENCE OR IN PASSING WILL BE KEPT IN CONFIDENCE BY THE STAF AT THE ACADEMY. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING POLICY THE ACADEMY UTILISES RPL ASSESSMENT TO OVERCOME ANY PRE CONCIEVED NOTIONS THAT PREVIOUSLY AQUIRED NOWLEDGE MAY BE INFERIOR TO THE COURSER PROVIDED BY THE ACADEMY. THROUGH RPL WE ACKNOWLEDGE INFORMAL LERANING AS PART OF A SOCIAL REDRESS PROGRAMME SO THAT ACCESS TO FORMAL LERANING MAY BE FACILITATED AND INSTITUTIONALIZED. RPL AT THE ACADEMY AIMS TO INCREASEINGLY SUPPORT THE PRINCIPLE OF LIFELONG LEARNING AND ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO DEVELOP AND IMPROVE SKILLS CONTINOUSLY TO MEET THE CAHLLENGES OF THE INDUSTRY. RPL IS DONE AGAINST UNIT STANDARDS AMD LERANING OUTCOMES OF WHOLE QUALIFICATIONS.
