  FULL TIME COURSE    
PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF THE COURSE.
Each Practical Skill learned is backed up by the theory behind it, safety and results are emphasized through out.
 
AESTHETICS
This includes treatment of the face, neck, hands and feet. In the first year of training basic therapy is covered. By the second year more advanced techniques are incorporated.

Facials – Analysis and treatment of the skin using products, electrotherapy and massage. Deep peels, non surgical face lifts and specialized masks are included.

Manicures and Pedicures – enhance the appearance and health of the hands and feet. Including paraffin therapy and specialized peels and masks.

Waxing – depilatory treatment including strip and hot wax.
Make-up – Including the application of day, evening and special occasion make-up.

PERMANENT MAKE UP

Permanent make-up is an invasive therapy and a part of a remedial skin therapies. It is described as pigment implantation. Tattoos and PMU are similar in the way of introducing pigment into the skin. Permanent make-up includes eyebrows and eye liner.

BODY THERAPY

This section includes how to access the clients figure type and identify any problems. The therapist then learns to draw up and execute a treatment plan specific to that client. Therapies include Mechanical massage and vacuum suction, cellulite and muscle tone treatments.

In Second year the student will add specialized body training to her portfolio. These therapies include Body Wraps, Advanced Electrotherapy and Heat Therapy.

CLASSICAL SWEDISH MASSAGE

Full body massage based on the traditional philosophy, incorporating all classical movements. The student learns the history and philosophy of massage. During this course she will come to understand the different types of movements and the various effects each movement will have on the different systems of the body.

AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE
The specific use of essential oils during a relaxing massage. During this section baby massage and care of the pregnant client is covered. Blending of oils and product design using oils completes this section.

HOT STONE MASSAGE
Hot stone therapy uses hot and cool stones to deliver a deeply therapeutic, relaxing and detoxifying treatment. It includes deep tissue, as well as energy work, using the charkas to realign and balance the individual.

KAHUNA MASSAGE
This healing system is derived from the ancient Polynesian methods of restoring balance to the body, mind and soul (Huna). Through this treatment of the physical body, powerful healing is able to take place more quickly and completely on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Use of specialized techniques to enhance the effects of classical massage, specifically applied to more muscular clients such as sports people.


REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology applies anatomy and physiology together with meridian theory to facilitate the body’s healing response. A deeply relaxing and therapeutic treatment, highly popular in the spa and salon environment.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Indian Head Massage is a therapy that balances body, mind and spirit, promoting health and well being. The traditional art of Indian Head Massage is based on the ancient system of medicines known as Ayurveda, which has been practiced in India for thousands of years. This technique evolved over a period of time, practiced
by families as part of their everyday
lives. The massage includes the head, neck, shoulders, upper back and arms.

BODY WORK

Concentrating on Skeletal massage and joint mobilization this advanced technique aims to release deep seated tension and promote wellness.
 

IPL PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL AND PHOTO-REGENERATION
The use of impulse light and patentd crystal technology to permanently remove unwanted hair. This advanced therapy is also used for anti ageing and acne treatments.
 

THEORETICAL ASPECTS
Theory subjects are conducted during the training to give a theoretical background to the practical aspects of the course. Theory subjects are taught by qualified therapists, with International diplomas in both beauty therapy and adult education.

Each subject is taught, revised and tested to ensure the student has an in depth understanding and knowledge of her field by the end of the two year period.
 


ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
This covers the structure and function of the human body. The student will learn how the body works and how the various systems inter relate. This knowledge is utilized during practical where understanding of the systems being stimulated, muscles being exercised and so on is vital to safe and effective practices.

 
 

CHEMISTRY AND PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

An understanding of the science of product technology is vital to enable the therapist to select, know and apply products to the clients skin and body. She must be able to read the latest technical product documents and understand what the product can and cant achieve.
An understanding of the chemistry behind the product will enable the therapist to explain concepts to clients and have realistic expectation regarding results to be anticipated.
 

PHYSICS AND ELECTROTHERAPY
The students will learn to work with the technology that is available to the therapist. Thus she must have an understanding of the currents, their effects on body tissue and systems and how to apply them safely for maximum results.
 

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
As many therapist aspire to one day owning their own business, a comprehensive training in business set up and management is included in the course design.
 

HYGIENE AND SALON SAFETY
The therapist works in the services industry, dealing directly with the public. It is important that she learns why and how to maintain a strict standard of hygiene in her practice to protect both clients and herself.
 

DERMATOLOGY AND APPLIED DERMATOLOGY

The study of the structure, function and problems of the skin is basic to both body and skin care therapy. To both penetrate products through, or treat conditions on the skin the therapist needs a knowledge of how the skin develops and what impacts directly on its functioning.
 

PATHOLOGY
The study of what can go wrong with the human body is an integral part of the course. The therapist must have a rudimentary understanding of various conditions, illness, and disorders. Many of these will be contra indications to treatment and the student must understand why and what could happen if one ignored the warnings.

NUTRITION
Although as therapists we do not prescribe diets for our clients, for optimum health, we must have an understanding of nutrients and the importance of diet to the well being of the client. Thus a grounding in nutrition and a look at various diet currently being advocated equips the therapist to fulfill a guidance role within her field of reference.
